First Presbyterian Church was established in 1879.
The life of the church started in homes and extended into the community in places such as James Hayes Hardware Store.
The first church building, on the corner of Church and Charles Streets, was erected in 1894.
The Session voted in 1896 to employ Rev. J. J. Moore to preach for one Sunday in a month for an indefinite time at one hundred and thirty dollars per year. ($130.00). N. B Baker served two four year terms.

In 1962, under the leadership of Rev. William “Bill” Orton, the session voted to move to the west of town and build a new building. Land was purchased and construction was started on West Main, across from Lewisville High School and immediately west of the present site of First Methodist Church. Dedication of the building was held on Sunday, March 11, 1962.The congregation worshiped there until the building was no longer safe. Land was purchased and a new building was built at the current location.
In 1977, we built our current church and constructed an education building in 1985. Both structures are debt-free and occupy one acre of our five acres of land.
